Hamburg, NY

Louis Design Solutions was retained by the Town of Hamburg Department of Community Development to undertake accessibility improvements as well as design an Outdoor Recreation Area to accommodate clients suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

The Outdoor Recreation Area project was designed to provide a place where Clients suffering from dementia could enjoy the outdoors during the summer months and partake in familiar activities in a safe environment. The design included covered /shaded seating areas, wheelchair accessible tables and walking paths laid out with a circular flow with no confusing turns or intersections. A fountain was included in the design to stimulate client’s auditory and other sensory functions. Planting beds, including raised planters to accommodate wheelchair bound clients, were provided so that clients could plant and tend summer gardens.
